Geographical analysis of agricultural production in Muthanna Governorate and its importance in achieving food security for the population
Abstract
The research summarized the role of the geographical distribution of agricultural crops in Muthanna Governorate, and its role in achieving food security, as the research revealed that the governorate is able to provide food security for its population as it has a large area of land (20696000) dunums, including (6323420) dunums suitable for agriculture with the availability of all elements and requirements of agriculture, representing (30. 5% of the total area of the governorate, where (389610) dunums were invested in the cultivation of wheat and barley crops (6.2%) of arable land, the largest share of the wheat crop because of its importance for food security and its direct relationship to the lives and needs of the population with (354743) dunums (91%) of the total land cultivated with the two mentioned crops, with a production amount of (208621) tons, with an average yield of (588) kg/dunum. 1 kg / dunum, while the proportion of the barley crop did not exceed (9%) with an area of (34,867) dunums, due to the failure to submit an agricultural plan for the cultivation of the barley crop in the province by the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture since 2019, The province also has large numbers of animals amounting to (1475461) sheep, (151732) goats, (39607) cows, (17090) buffaloes and (28677) camels, and the number of poultry fields (117) fields with a productivity of (549) tons of chicken meat per month, and the number of poultry fields (eggs) (16) fields with a productivity of (20757600) eggs per month
